We bet you’re mad you don’t have a hoverboard yet, huh. Time-travel movies are as old as time itself; well, not exactly, but you get our point. For as long as the concept of time itself has existed, humanity has dedicated itself to uncovering the secrets of its seemingly-linear existence, which has led to some hilariously-contrived notions of what time is; a knife, an infinite loop of rope-like strands, a wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey thingamajig; we could keep going with the pop culture references in this list, but that’s a job for the Merc with a Mouth (who has had a few time-bending adventures of his own, wouldn’t you know.). All of this to say; time is fickle (cue Bryan Danielson clip), and movie-makers have never shied from playing with its fickleness, peeling back the veil of space-time to give us glimpses into a character’s past, future, and all possible alternate-present versions of themselves. 
The results are often hilarious, sometimes melancholic and almost always bizarre; Alligator Loki says hello. But the very idea of changing sequential events that have already occurred, altering the fabric of reality by plucking a nexus moment from time and turning it into something else entirely; the concept of traversing the plane of time is one that should evoke existential dread- if we can change all of history with a simple wristwatch, how real is our understanding of time, and indeed, reality itself? Time-travel/Time Loop stories are fertile ground for harnessing Lovecraftian levels of awe-inspiring terror; and yet somehow, the closest we’ve gotten to exploring that perception of time is in the hardcore science fiction aisle or a re-run of David Tennant’s tenure as The Doctor until now. As it turns out, not everyone in the film business is interested in inconsequential time-traveling love affairs with their mothers; some took the road-not-taken, and delved into the dark side of Father Time to create some truly heart-stopping time-thrillers that are equally exhilarating & terrifying to behold. We apologize for saying “time” too many times; and that time; and that one as well.
